Keep your Google rankings when you move.

WooCommerce and Shopify use different URLs, so every old link breaks at launch unless it's redirected. Paste your WooCommerce URLs and download a redirect file Shopify can import.

Runs in your browser. Your URLs are never uploaded or stored.

How to get your WooCommerce URLs

  1. Open yourstore.com/sitemap_index.xml (Yoast or Rank Math) or yourstore.com/wp-sitemap.xml (WordPress's own sitemap).
  2. Open each sitemap listed there: products, product categories, pages and posts.
  3. Select all (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A), copy, and paste it into the box above. You can paste several sitemaps one after another.

For the most complete list, also export your top pages from Google Search Console (Performance, then Pages, then Export). Old URLs that still get clicks matter most.

How to import the file into Shopify

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Content, then Menus, then URL Redirects. (On some stores it's under Online Store, then Navigation.)
  2. Click Import, choose shopify-redirects.csv and confirm.
  3. After launch, open a few old URLs to check they land on the right page, and watch the Pages report in Search Console for 404 errors for the next 30 days.

The URL rules this tool uses

WooCommerceShopify
/product/linen-apron//products/linen-apron
/product-category/kitchen/aprons//collections/aprons
/product-tag/gift-ideas//collections/all/gift-ideas
/shop//collections/all
/about-us//pages/about-us
/blog/post-name/ or /2024/05/post-name//blogs/news/post-name
/category/recipes//blogs/news/tagged/recipes
/my-account//account

Two things need a human eye. Nested categories become flat collections, so two subcategories with the same name (for example /men/shirts/ and /women/shirts/) need different collection handles. And URLs with query strings, like ?p=123, are listed separately for you to map by hand. The SEO migration guide covers the rest of the launch-day checks.

Questions

Do I really need redirects when moving to Shopify?

Yes. Without them, every Google result and every link from another site points at a page that no longer exists. Rankings drop and visitors land on a "page not found". A 301 redirect passes them, and most of the ranking, to the new page.

Doesn't the migration app do this?

Some apps offer redirects as a paid extra, and most only cover products and categories. Pages, blog posts, tags and old links from Search Console are usually left to you.

Is there a limit on how many redirects Shopify allows?

Standard Shopify plans allow up to 100,000 URL redirects, and Shopify Plus allows far more. That is much more than a typical WooCommerce store needs. If a very large file won't import, split it into two.

Can you check my redirect map?

Yes. Send your store URL below. Every migration I do includes the full redirect map, checked against Search Console before and after launch.
